A Planner's Advice for COVID Couples
Hi there. Let’s get to it — COVID sucks. If you’re reading this, you were probably planning a wedding that got badly beaten and bruised by this ever-changing pandemic. We hear you. And more importantly, we’re here for you.
As a planner, I talk with countless couples every single day who have been affected by the coronavirus. Couples who had to cancel the day before their wedding due to shutdowns. Couples who postponed one, two, three, four times. Couples who abandoned all hope of having a wedding this year. Couples who said screw it and went to the courthouse. Your story is unique, but you’re not alone.
Because of this, here at Modern Elopement, we created a community for couples who are now planning a micro-wedding, mini-wedding, elopement, etc. In the community, you’ll be able to interact with so many other couples who are in the same position as you and see what they did. We will also be personally interacting in the group to provide encouragement and answers.
Without further ado, here are my top 4 pieces of advice for couples affected by COVID:
Cry about it! You have really been through the ringer this year, and planning a wedding was already stressful enough without having the entire world shut down on you. Take a moment (or lot of moments) to cry about it. Vent when you need to, but absolutely do not bottle it up. Once you’ve cried about it, it’s time to move on.
Come to terms. It’s a hard reality, but you can’t fight government mandates or venue rules. A very important step is making peace with the idea that your big wedding isn’t going to happen this year, but I promise you, something amazing will come out of this! Find the humor in this situation or post a silly Instagram Reel.
Get married already. If you have been putting your life on hold because of this, just do it already. There are so many ways to have a gorgeous intimate experience now before having a big hometown bash later!
Don’t fight your contracts. Your signed contracts are legally binding. Unfortunately, this pandemic is not going to get you out of a legal obligation to pay a vendor. BUT there are so many things you can do to make this better. Talk openly with your vendors to see if they can postpone for you. You can always use them again later for your Sequel Wedding!
